Females have round
abdomen and males have pointed abdomens.
Bed bugs are often erroneously associated with filth.
They are attracted by exhales carbon dioxide, not by dirt; feed on blood, not waste.
Prevention Do not bring infested items into one's home. It is important to carefully inspect clothing and
luggage from traveling, being on the lookout for bed bugs and their tell-tale fecal spots.
Facts: - Hides
in the day in crack & crevices, mattress, box spring, frame of bed behind baseboards, pictures, furniture etc.
- Travels 5 to 20 feet from host -blood meal and are capable of traveling
100 feet to get a meal.
- Feed every few days-
if host is available
- Feed only on blood
- Life cycle takes 4-5 weeks from egg to maturity, and become reproductively
active only at maturity.
- Female may lay 200-500
eggs in her life time
- They can travel through
outlets, radiator units, and switch plate.

Feeding Bed bugs are parasites that preferentially feed on humans. If people aren't available, they instead will feed on other warm-blooded
animals, including birds, rodents, pets and bats.
Health effects on humans While bedbugs have been known to harbor pathogens in their bodies, including plague and hepatitis, they have not been linked
to the transmission of any disease and are not regarded as medical threat. So people individuals, however, can get skin infection
and scars from scratching bites. Not everyone reacts to same, some people often get swelling welts and are
itchier then a mosquitoes, however some have little or no reaction to bedbug bites.
Where to look: - The first sign of bed bugs is usually a group
of bites. If you experience bites, look for bed bugs in your bed or where you were sleeping.
- Look for blood stain on sheets, pillows and blankets.
- Look under the mattress and pillows
- Check seams and puckers of the mattress
- Getting a bug sample is very important.
